If you haven\u2019t read \u201cThe Four Agreements,\u201d I would highly recommend it.)<\/p>\n<p>But sometimes, we humans have a way of using valuable pieces of wisdom against ourselves in times of <a href=\"https:\/\/internalgroove.com\/2023dev\/wait-minute\/\">overwhelm<\/a> and challenge.<\/p>\n<p>So, I\u2019d like to elaborate a bit more on how to look at \u201calways do your best\u201d in a way that may serve you in a more powerful way, especially in unusual times&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>Don\u2019t establish an immovable standard of doing your best.<\/h2>\n<p>First, please don\u2019t establish an immovable standard of doing your best based on how you operate when you\u2019ve had the perfect amount of sleep, a great workout, eaten an ideal diet, you\u2019re in love, extra energetic, in ideal health, fully living your life purpose and feeling motivated about an exciting new project.<\/p>\n<p>You certainly want to maximize the opportunity to ace your day when you\u2019ve made great choices, external circumstances aren\u2019t creating grief and the stars are aligned for you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The tricky part of doing your best (and where we may sometimes use it \u201cagainst ourselves\u201d) is when we hold ourselves to such a standard<\/strong> on days when it feels like the world is in upheaval, there\u2019s massive grief in the collective or small things like a global pandemic are occurring all around us.<\/p>\n<p>Or in your own household, if&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you\u2019ve been up all night arguing with your significant other<\/li>\n<li>your child has a bug<\/li>\n<li>or you\u2019re trying to figure out <a href=\"https:\/\/internalgroove.com\/2023dev\/your-work-from-home-groove\/\">how to work from home with no office door<\/a> and no designated place to get things done.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your best may simply be making an important phone call before you hit the pause button and reach for a cup of immunity-boosting tea.<\/p>\n<h2>The point is\u2026 \u201cyour best\u201d is a subjective and fluctuating standard.<\/h2>\n<p>And understanding this is an indispensable self management tool that may even boost your productivity tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When we decide that we are only doing our best if we accomplish the volume and quality of work we would accomplish on our most ideal day, we sell ourselves short on days when we have fewer resources to draw from.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you are feeling physically, mentally, and\/or emotionally depleted, it\u2019s more important to recharge than it is to force yourself to achieve some unreasonable standard you\u2019ve previously set.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Just don\u2019t fall into the trap of assuming there is only one high standard for what that is.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So yes, always do your best.<\/p>\n<p>Just don\u2019t fall into the trap of assuming there is only one high standard for what that is.<\/p>\n<p>Do the best you can with the energy, stamina and tools you have in the moment\u2026 And <a href=\"https:\/\/internalgroove.com\/2023dev\/one-two-three-hurray-for-me\/\">don\u2019t forget to celebrate<\/a> and take a moment to feel proud of yourself for doing your best in each given circumstance!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve found yourself in uncertain territory as our world continues to unfold, I can help.
