How’s your networking savvy? Building your network isn’t just a task; it’s a daily habit that can transform your career. Here’s why it’s so crucial.
In my years as a career coach, I have seen a few clients make the mistake of waiting until they desperately need a job to build a network.
If you don’t regularly put effort into building your network, you could find yourself in a difficult situation.
This is why I advise my clients to prioritize building a network, no matter their work situation.
You should be building a network…
…whether you are employed or not.
…whether you love your job or not.
…no matter what is happening in the world.
…no matter what the economy looks like.
Building your network is really about making connections and building relationships.
Yes, there are times when it is more challenging to connect with people, such as during a pandemic.
But it is always possible.
All it takes is making the effort to reach out.
You can make a phone call, send someone a note, or invite them to meet in person or on Zoom for a glass of wine or a coffee and conversation.
Get creative about making connections and building relationships with people.
- If you see an article that reminds you of someone, take a moment to send it to them.
- If you think of them and wonder how some aspect of their life is going, reach out and let them know.
- If you learn something new about a topic you know they are interested in, tell them about it.
The most crucial thing to remember is to make it a regular practice to do these things.
Put effort into building your network every day!
This is how you avoid the uncomfortable position of needing a network and not having a strong one.
