One empowering way to enhance your job search is to broaden the range of jobs you consider yourself ‘worthy’ to apply for. Here’s how.
I recently learned about a study that found interesting differences in how men and women approach a job search.
One of the most fascinating findings was that men feel only 60% of a job description has to fit them before they apply, while women think 100% has to fit them.
So, women consider the scope of the jobs they are qualified to apply for smaller than men.
This is a case where women can learn from men.
A good fit for a job doesn’t require experience in ALL aspects of the job description.
In fact, if you feel confident that you can do all the parts of a job description, it’s probably NOT the job for you because it won’t stretch you.
It won’t challenge you.
It won’t take you to a new level of performance.
Taking a job that allows you to learn new skills is much more exciting!
Some of our most significant victories in self-worth come from doing things we’ve never done before.
It’s also where we grow the most, learn the most, and have the most fun. I know this because when I ask my clients to remember the times when they had the most fun, it’s always the times that they stretched past their comfort zone.
It’s the things they did that required courage.
Can you relate?
Are there things you’ve done that initially seemed a little scary or uncertain and ended up being rewarding and fun?
Can you apply this understanding to your job search or your career path?
Can you put yourself out there and apply for jobs that will allow you to stretch past your comfort zone, learn new things, and have fun?
I encourage you to go for it!
