Do you have an entrepreneurial mindset? If you’re not sure, I’ll cover some key components of it in this audio clip.
Having an entrepreneurial mindset is ideal if you want to start your own business.
I help clients who are considering starting a business determine if they have the entrepreneurial bone.
What I call the entrepreneurial bone is really a set of qualities that make up the entrepreneurial mindset.
One of those qualities is the willingness to try new things.
And when you do try new things, it’s important to remind yourself that no one is confident the first time they do something.
There was a first time for every talented artist, every prominent politician, and every star sports player.
And none of them were confident!
Confidence is built through the process of trial and error.
This brings me to another quality of the entrepreneurial mindset, which is being willing to test and tweak new products or services.
When there is a new beginning, whether it’s an entirely new business venture, or just something new you are adding to your current business, recognize that it’s okay not to be confident in the beginning.
If things don’t go as you hoped or planned the first time, don’t tell yourself things like, “Well, I guess this just isn’t my strong suit.”
Instead, remind yourself that you will get better with time.
You will learn more about what and how your clients like things as you test and tweak in the field.
This is the life of an entrepreneur!
You have to be creative. You have to try new things, and then pay attention to the feedback.
Ask yourself questions as you implement new ideas.
For instance:
- Is the price right?
- Do you need to try something different?
- Do you need to add another element?
These questions cannot be answered when you are just introducing a new product or service.
They have to be discovered as the process unfolds and as you make observations about how it is being received.
