Have you ever lost a job unexpectedly? If so, you may have been left feeling devastated and vulnerable. Coping skills are so crucial when this happens! In this clip, I’ll give a little encouraging insight for times when you feel like life has punched you in the gut.
Coping skills often seem far away when we face unexpected challenges and difficulties.
If you have ever lost a job suddenly for any reason (getting fired, downsized, etc.), you know the importance of practical coping skills.
A constructive healing process is one coping skill that must be considered.
As uncomfortable as it is, your feelings about the loss must be felt and moved through. Ignoring them, sweeping them under the rug, or using unhealthy means of numbing the pain will only cause more problems in the long run.
Feeling the uncomfortable feelings is how your body processes the loss so you can effectively leave the situation behind.
Another good coping skill is looking for a hidden gift within the circumstance.
As challenging as it may be, acknowledge that it happened for a reason.
That job was no longer the right place for you.
Trust that the universe has something more fitting in store for you, and this is how things must be for that better thing to come about.
I know this is possible because I have seen it happen repeatedly with clients.
They are devastated at first, but they eventually feel glad it happened.
In many cases, they see it as the best thing that ever happened to them.
In the moment, when things are fresh and raw, it can be hard to hear that there is a hidden gift.
But if you try, you can open up a tiny bubble of hope that this is true, even if it takes a while to manifest.
Feeling stuck in a job you hate, but not sure what to do next?
You're not alone, and you don't have to figure it out on your own. Getting the right support can make all the difference.
