Entrepreneurial Questions To Ask Yourself Before Starting A Business

Are you considering entrepreneurship? Before you take the plunge, there are some critical entrepreneurial questions to ask. This self-assessment will help you determine if entrepreneurship is a good fit for you.

When I have clients considering entrepreneurship, I often use the metaphor of an ‘entrepreneurial bone’ to explain the need for certain innate, entrepreneurial qualities.

Just as a bone provides structure and support to the body, these qualities are the foundation of a successful entrepreneur.

To help them understand this, I provide a set of entrepreneurial questions to ask.

It is crucial to ask these questions to determine whether you have an entrepreneurial mindset and assess your readiness before embarking on your business journey.

Because without a few key personality traits, you will likely not enjoy entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurial Questions to Ask

The first question to ask is: Do you trust yourself?

People with entrepreneurial mindsets tend to trust themselves more than they trust other people.

They trust that no matter what happens—even if things don’t go as planned, even if things fall apart—they will figure out a plan for dealing with it.

Trusting yourself is a crucially important trait for any aspiring entrepreneur.

The second entrepreneurial question is: Do you enjoy solving big, hairy, complicated problems?

Entrepreneurs are creative and solution-oriented. In fact, finding creative solutions to problems is their favorite activity.

For some people, this is a big headache.

If you prefer straightforward, clear-cut protocols that don’t require creative problem-solving, you will likely not enjoy entrepreneurship.

The third question is: Is there something you feel strongly about?

Many entrepreneurs feel the world needs to be changed for the better, and they want to be the ones to make that change.

It’s more than feeling passionate about something or having something they love to do.

It’s about the desire to create an innovative solution for a certain problem that will make things easier for a group of people.

Answering these three questions will help you determine whether entrepreneurship is a good fit for you.

If you answered no to one or more questions and still want to start a business, consider creating a strong team that brings those pieces to the table.

Otherwise, you may end up being unhappy as an entrepreneur.
