Career growth can be a daunting endeavor, especially if you are starting a new business or career path. Listen in here for one of my most effective business growth strategies that only requires an hour a day!
One of the keys to a successful business is consistency.
That’s why I coach my clients in the art of micro-movements, one of my favorite business growth strategies.
I recommend starting any career growth action plan with micro-movements.
What are micro-movements?
They are tiny action steps.
Anything that can be done in about fifteen minutes is a micro-movement.
Do you have a big dream that makes you feel overwhelmed when you think about all the steps required to make it a reality?
Micro-movements are the answer to getting started, getting unstuck, and getting things done. Before you know it you’ll be at the party, right where you want to be.
That’s much better than feeling overwhelmed and immobilized with a four-page to-do list!
Here’s how micro-movements work:
- You don’t have to abandon the four-page to-do list. You just have to break it down into smaller, more manageable steps.
- I recommend choosing three micro-movements to do each day. That’s about an hour’s worth of work. A micro-movement could be one item on your to-do list, or it could be one piece of an item. It all depends on how long it takes to accomplish.
- Plan to do your micro-movements early in the day. For many people, that is ideally before lunch when your energy is best. Getting it done early is a great way to make sure it doesn’t get forgotten or neglected. This is especially important if you have another job you have to do to get the bills paid. If you have a more unconventional schedule, then plan to do it in your power zone, which is the time of day when you are at your sharpest and most creative.
- If you have to go to a job that pays the bills, or there are other things you have to do, making that hour a priority will build momentum. And momentum creates more momentum.
- Three is the ideal number because it’s the number of things our brains can hold onto best. Having a long list of things without breaking it down into a micro-movement action plan can short circuit your brain (and the process).
With micro-movements, you don’t feel like you have a huge mountain to climb.
Before you know it, you’re cruising along, getting things done, and feeling good about yourself and your career growth.
