Friendly Keys for a Successful Business

Effective business growth strategies are so important when you are a business owner, especially when you’re just starting out. If you are looking for the keys for a successful business, I’ll give you one of my most simple and effective tips in this audio clip.

Some business growth strategies are simple.

Effective communication, consideration, and attentiveness are among them.

These are some of the keys for a successful business. In a nutshell, be friendly.

When I was Marketing Director for The Beverly Center in Los Angeles, there was never a shortage of advertising and sales representatives from magazines. (This was before social media when magazines were much bigger than they are now).

Some of those reps would pull the hard sell on me and call me constantly even though I told them I didn’t have the budget.

This was an excellent sign that they were not listening to me.

There were other reps that took good notes and remembered things I mentioned to them.

The sign that made that apparent was that they would inquire about an event I had previously told them about after it occurred.

They would ask how the revenue was. And sometimes they would propose ways they could help support the event if it happened again in the future.

The people I called back and had follow up meetings with were the ones who took the time to get to know me and consider the challenges I was dealing with in my job.

Rather than just being interested in meeting their sales goals, they were curious about what my goals were and came up with strategies to help me reach them.

These are the reps that I’m still friends with 20 plus years later.

In fact, some of these people have become coaching clients.

Anyone can learn a solid lesson in career advancement from my personal experience with magazine reps, because all of us respond well to those who are curious about us and what we are going through.

That means, no matter what your career, job, or position is, genuine concern for others is one of the most effective business growth strategies.
